Please join us for an open studio with our artists-in-residence Jasmine Nilani and Sabyasachi Bhattacharjee on Mar 1 & 2, 2020.
In Kochi, Jasmine has been studying its landscape of unoccupied and abandoned houses, a sociological phenomenon that has parallels in her home town of Jaffna, Sri Lanka. Through the aesthetic of jewellery shops, she explores how the spaces of residence and repose have been turned into objects of display and financial investment.
Sabyasachi continues his practice of thinking about the social world through the lens of natural scientific principles. Micro-organisms from the sea enter his work at Pepper House both as figures and as metaphors, as he studies the dialectic between the individual and the collective, order and chaos, deliberation and spontaneity.
Jasmine Nilani and Sabyasachi Bhattacharjee have been in residence through the months of January and February, 2020. Their work will be on show at the Pepper House Residency exhibition parallel to the 2020 Kochi-Muziris Biennale.
