Traditional Ballad Workshop

Hanna Tuulikki will share her knowledge of the ballads, paying particular attention to the portrayal of women within the lyrics. In a relaxed and informal way, she will teach a handful of songs from the Scottish, English, and Irish traditions. No experience is necessary to participate in this workshop.

Experimental Vocal Ensemble Workshop

In this exploratory session, Tuulikki will introduce participants to aspects of her vocal practice, sharing her approach to wordless song, extended vocal expression and experimental improvisation. Taking in elements of her recent scores, as well as ensemble exercises, the workshop will explore the question: how can we sing as a collective? This will appeal to singers, artists and students who are interested in exploring experimental vocalization, outside of traditional or classical forms. Some singing experience recommended.

Hanna Tuulikki is a featuring artist at the 2016 edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale. She is a composer and performer who works across a range of visual and sound-based forms. She works primarily with the voice to build worlds out of sound, and makes use of sculptural objects, drawings, text and visual scores in her performances.
