Visual artist Sophie-Therese Trenka-Dalton lives in Berlin, where she studied at the University of the Arts until 2007. After her studies she travelled within Europe, the US and the UAE to develop her projects, exhibiting in Germany and internationally. In 2016 she published her first comprehensive catalog “PALMS” with works since 2005.
In her research-based installations she examines the process of cultural appropriation that occurs when centers of power implode and reshape, retracing the continuous migration of cultural motifs along artifacts, buildings and stories.
Kochi project: “Gulfi”, which will focus on the cultural and economic relations between Kerala and the UAE and investigates how remittance capital from the Gulf manifests in the state´s architectural and social fabric. Her residency in Kochi was in collaboration with the bangaloREsidency of the Goethe-Institut, Bangalore.
